Pilgrim swim wraps up season

Warwick Beacon ·

By ALEX SPONSELLER The Pilgrim girls swim team fell 66-27 to Mount St. Charles last week in its season finale in Woonsocket.

Erin Cassady took first place in the 200 IM while Kaylee Collins finished second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. Cassady also took second in the backstroke.

Cassady, Charlotte McPherson, Kara Lee and Madison Tatarian finished second in the 200 medley relay for Pilgrim. Keaney Bayha, Allison Shaheen, Collins and Madison Ventura took second in the 200 free relay.

Cassady, Ventura, Collins and McPherson combined to finish second in the 400 free relay.

As the Pats wrap up their season, they will begin to look toward 2022-23. Pilgrim will be graduating two seniors in Collins and Lee, and coach Dori La Bella expects a tough task filling those shoes.

“It’s going to be tough, they made a big impact on the team. One is a club swimmer and the other one grew up as a club swimmer, so it’s going to be tough losing them. It’s going to be a challenge, but hopefully we’ll get some freshman to come in and help out,” said La Bella.

Although Pilgrim cooled off a bit down the stretch this season, La Bella and company have been pleased with the team’s overall progression and hopes to see it carry over next year.

“They have a good foundation for next year. Looking at their scores here tonight and their scores through the year, they’ve made good strides,” La Bella said. “They’ve consistently been getting better building up the technique and improving their speed.”
