Volunteers sought for weekend JMCE golf tournament

Johnston Sun Rise ·

The organizers of the Johnson Memorial Cancer Events (JMCE) are looking for two people who’d like to be part of a rewarding experience.

Judi Graham, who is chairing the JMCE’s second annual Memorial Co-Ed Memorial Golf Tournament to be held Sunday at Glocester Country Club, said the volunteers are needed to oversee the popular “Las Vegas Hole” during the outing.

“We need two people who’d love to help with what last year was a beautiful experience of golf and giving,” Graham, who along with her husband David owns and operates Graham Builders in Smithfield. “We are asking two people to step forward and man the betting hole. This will only require six hours of your time.”

The reason Graham has issued the call for help is simple: “The betting hole gives us additional revenue to present to [the oncology-hematology department at] Hasbro Children’s Hospital to help provide programs and necessities for kids who are battling cancer.”

Those who volunteer may just meet some new friends, too. The tournament includes lunch and dinner.

“The tournament is sold out again,” Graham said. “Come out Sunday and help us make this year’s donation larger than the initial tourney last fall. We guarantee you will not be disappointed.”

Anyone interested in volunteering should call Judi Graham at 401-497-2954 or Linda and Vin LaFazia at 401-233-2564.

Tee-off is set for noon on Sunday, Oct. 2, and will be preceded by a luncheon.

The entry fee is $100 per golfer, which includes the 18 holes of golf, lunch and check in, and dinner following the tournament.

There may also be time left to purchase a memorial sign at $30 or a business tee sign at $60. For more information or reservations, call Graham or the LaFazias.
