Johnston Sun Rise ·

After nearly a decade of operating its headquarters in Providence, Universal Wealth Management (UWM) has announced it has relocated to 945 Reservoir Ave. in Cranston.

To celebrate the grand opening of its new location, UWM will be holding an open house on

Friday, Sept. 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., including an official ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Cranston Mayor Allan Fung at 4:30 p.m.

Universal Wealth Management is a leading independent financial services firm providing investments offered through broker dealer, insurance and financial planning services. UWM also offers complete retirement planning, including social security enrollment, understanding all areas of Medicare and helping clients identify and enroll in the best Medicare plan to fit their health care needs.

“The new headquarters in Cranston supports the growth of our company, is conveniently located and has ample free parking,” said Universal Wealth Management founder and president Karen Emma. Emma, a lifelong Cranston resident, completely renovated a vacant building on Reservoir Avenue to meet UWM’s needs.

What began as Emma’s financial services company has blossomed into a full service firm offering a personalized approach to helping clients’ achieve financial wellness by coordinating their retirement planning to support their health and financial goals.

“We are unique in that we provide support through the complete retirement process beginning with social security. We also help our clients’ sort through and understand Medicare and its costs, to coincide with their retirement income stream,” said Emma. “I believe that few companies in the area provide this type of service.”

Emma partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI and AARP/United Healthcare as an independent insurance agent along with many other local health insurance companies. Over the last several years, this partnership has expanded. UWM conducts Medicare Open Enrollment Events offering complimentary guidance and assistance to anyone new to Medicare or currently enrolled throughout the state of Rhode Island, as well as Massachusetts and Connecticut. During the open enrollment period of Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, UWM will host more than 50 free Medicare events throughout the state. Each event provides an introduction to Medicare and comprehensive information on the 2017 Medicare Plans available.

“We know people are confused about Social Security and Medicare. We know choosing a Medicare plan can be a daunting process. We started helping just a few of our clients throughout the years,” said Emma. “Now we are helping people all over the state and beyond to better understand their options and what is available to them to fit their own personal needs. The fact that we walk each person through the process and make it simple for them to understand is the key.”
