Locals lose second game in Major 11-12 Baseball Division event

JOHNSTON — Riverside's first-ever venture to the 11-12 Major Baseball Division State All-Star Tournament, unfortunately, was a brief one as the locals suffered their second one-sided loss in as many days to fall out of the event.

Cranston Western handed Riverside a 10-0 defeat in the opening round Saturday at Johnston's War Memorial Park.

Sunday afternoon, July 23, it was the same story for the locals as South Kingstown raced past Riverside, 17-0, in the losers' bracket portion of the event.

Though it likely won't immediately take the sting out of being eliminated from the state tourney, the Riverside players and coaching staff can take some solace in knowing they were the first team from East Providence to win a District 2 championship in the modern version of the All-Star tournament.
