Restoring the restoration

Warwick Beacon ·

Warwick City Council Chambers are off-limits these days as crews under the direction of C&L Builders of Warwick work to remedy damage done when a sprinkler in the restored chambers caused water damage to the room. Even though the leak was caught before it could damage lower rooms and measures were taken to mop up as well as dehumidify the room, the moisture buckled portions of the hardwood flooring and caused extensive paint flaking. Restoring the chambers, estimated to cost $500,000 that will be covered by insurance, requires replacing the floor and repainting the ceiling and other portions of the chambers. The work is expected to be completed in another two months. Meanwhile, City Council meetings are being held in the Police Community Room in Police headquarters. (Warwick Beacon photos)
