EAST PROVIDENCE — Alleged predatory behavior 40 years ago at one of the area's most prestigious preparatory schools has surfaced in recent weeks.

The East Providence Police Department announced Tuesday evening, June 20, detectives have initiated a preliminary investigation regarding allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior by a past faculty member at The Gordon School against former students.

According to Detective Lieutenant Raymond Blinn, the EPPD was acting after being contacted by representatives of the school.

Just recently, representatives from Gordon School were made aware of allegations of past inappropriate sexual behavior by a former faculty member.

The allegations date back to the 1970s and were made by a former student. The Gordon School administration, upon learning of the allegations, engaged Neal McNamara of the Law Firm Nixon Peabody, LLP, to serve as an independent investigator and liaison with the East Providence Police Department.

If anyone has any further information regarding this matter, they are urged to contact the East Providence Police Department, Detective Division, or they can contact Mr. McNamara at nmcnamara@nixonpeabody.com.

No members of the current faculty of Gordon School were employed during the time that the allegations took place.

Representatives of the Gordon School, along with Mr. McNamara, are working with East Providence Police Detectives regarding the investigation into these allegations.
