Park View students spread some love for Hasbro's Tomorrow Fund
The Park View community prides itself on its reputation of generosity and giving to those in need. Starting at the beginning of December this past school year, the school came together and did a supply drive for the Hasbro Tomorrow Fund for the fourth year.
These items are used for children when they visit Hasbro and either have to pass the time or during a procedure.
Students were given blue PBIS (Positive Behavior Incentive System) tickets for every donation they brought in.
"This put them into the weekly raffle to win either a gift card to the mall or lunch with friends. I gave out hundreds of blue tickets," said Phoenix team math teacher Joanne Spaziano, coordinator of the program.
In total, the students collected four boxes filled with band aids (50 boxes in each box), four boxes of bubbles, one big box with stickers, five boxes of coloring books (40 books in each box), and four boxes crayons (50 packs in each box), one big box of stickers, and two very large boxes of small assorted toys which were donated by the RI National Guard Family Assistance Program.
Sixth grade student, Christian DelCarmen said he donated because he thought it would be a good thing for the kids to use when they go the hospital.
"Donations came from students, faculty and staff. We sent out a thank you to Colonel Harmen (RINGFAP) at for all of his support and cooperation in this project," said Spaziano. Spaziano estimated that about 100 pounds of materials were collected overall.
