OLG, Pannese Society’s acts of grace a welcome gift

Johnston Sun Rise ·

Whenever and wherever there’s a need for help, chances are you’ll find people like Rev. Peter J. Gower and Joseph Spremulli, especially when it comes to helping families in need of food at this time of year.

Perhaps Father Gower, the parish’s popular priest, said it best Monday morning inside Fioretti Hall, which was filled from one end to another with baskets of food and in some cases holiday gifts for children.

“This is a time of great grace for our parish,” Father Gower said while looking over some 60 laundry baskets that were filled with hams and all the trimmings a family will need for their Christmas dinners. “We thank everyone who has had a part to play in making this a beautiful Christmas.”

Spremulli, the old sage of the highly-respected Pannese Society, said, “May God Bless all the people who helped us this year; we had donations coming from everywhere … Columbus Door, TD Bank, Stop & Shop … we love helping our fellow men and women and their children who unfortunately need help.”

As Gower explained while looking at the plastic laundry baskets that were overflowing with food and gifts and in some cases gift cards: “Our Lady of Grace and the Pannese Society have again joined forces for this annual Christmas Food Basket Program.”

In year’s past, as Gower said, OLG has had a tradition of providing Christmas dinners to needy families in Johnston. Now, with the help of the Pannese Society, the priest explained, volunteers will be delivering twice-as-many baskets this week.

While Father Gower kept heaping words of praise on those individuals and businesses that contributed money to purchase items such as bread, produce and non-food items, he complimented the dedicated members of OLG’s Holy Name Society who again helped to sort and package each and every food basket.

Moreover, Father Gower wanted it known, “We have many gifts for the children that have been added to the baskets – even gift cards – that is another generous act of giving from our parish’s Advent Nicholas Project.” By PETE FONTAINE
