Letter: New school makes most fiscal sense for Westport

To the editor:

As a resident of Westport for 50 years and an educator for the Westport Community Schools for 36  years, I fully support the building of a new school, and I urge my fellow voters to do the same.  Our students deserve this!

Some may feel that the timing is bad, for we now have a state-of-the-art firehouse and are in the process of completing a much needed police station. I fully supported those endeavors!  We “bit the bullet” for those projects and it is now imperative that we “bite the bullet” for a new school.  It is a fiscally responsible decision to accept the monies available to us at this time.

Our superintendent,  Dr. Ann Dargan, (who sadly was denied the opportunity to see this through), worked tirelessly to bring this school to us.  She, and many other dedicated residents, saw the need for a new school.  Due diligence was done, and innumerable meetings open to the public were held. There were countless invitations to become part of the process.

It is now time to stand up for our students and the future of this town.  Please support the building of a new school and invest in a bright future for Westport.
