John L. Christina, 78, of Bristol

John L. Christina, 78, of Bristol, died on Nov. 26, 2017. He was the husband of Martha (McMurtry) Christina. Born in Forest City, Pa., the son of the late John and Sylvia (Telban) Christina, he was raised in Schenectady, N.Y.  

After earning his Ph.D. at Indiana University, he taught Spanish language and literature at Brown University. He then directed the Bilingual/Bicultural Center at Rhode Island College, before moving to Roger Williams University, where he was Assistant Dean of International Students. After several years as an administrator, he returned to teaching Spanish and retired from Bridgewater State University. 

John was an accomplished photographer and an exhibiting member of the Bristol Art Museum and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. He was widely traveled and had a deep affection for Spain and the Açorean island of Faial. 

John is survived by his wife, four children, and their families: Rachel Christina, her husband Ayman Alsayed, their children Haytham and Haneen; Margot Gerrish, her husband Nathan, their son Khristopher; Adam Christina, his wife Lauren, their children Natalie and Ryan; Daniel Christina, his wife Julie, their children Jack and Owen; as well as his sister, Sylvia Annunziata, and several nieces and nephews.

The family gratefully acknowledges the care and support of Dr. Alane Torf, Dr. Anthony Mega and his oncology team, Dr. Shane Greene, Dr. Kristina Fanucci, the nurses and staff at The Miriam Hospital, Silver Creek Manor, and Beacon Hospice.
