Irene T. Saviano, 87, of Bristol

Mrs. Irene T. (Martelly) Saviano, age 87, of Constitution Street, Bristol, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at St. Elizabeth’s Manor, Bristol. She was the wife of the late Vincent J. Saviano, Jr., her husband of 51 years, who preceded her in death in June of 2002. 

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Helen (Gamelin) Martelly. A graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1948, after graduating she worked for several years as a switch board operator for the former Smith’s Manufacturing Company, formerly of Bristol, then a homemaker for most of her life.

Irene enjoy spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, playing cards and games with family and friends, and traveling. She was an avid bowler and spent many years bowling in leagues with her late husband. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol.

She is survived by four children: twins Diane J. Saviano and Donna H. Moorachian (Gerald Benjamin), both of Naples, Fla.; Vincent J. Saviano, III (Elizabeth) and Judy A. Ciociola (Robert), both of Bristol; six grandchildren, Stephanie Norris, Kimberlee Quinn Julian, Erika L. Saviano, Kristin Quinn, Kelly Volpe and Mathew Ciociola; eight great-grandchildren, Amala and Thomas Bender, Quinn and Voloric Julian, Siena Monteleone, Adriana Butt and Frank Butt, Jr. and Wyatt Fritz; a brother, Henry Martelly, Jr. of Longs, S.C.; and a sister, Beatrice Fischer of Yacama, Wash.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death also by a sister, Jane Ferreira. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will be private.
