After more than 34 years, Teddy Bearskins is closing its doors in Barrington.

Owners Deb and Bob Semple made the decision to close to be closer to their family. The last day of business is planned for Friday, March 31.

Mrs. Semple said they have enjoyed being in business in Barrington and have made many great friends over the years. They will open a new location in East Greenwich and also have an existing store in Wickford.

“It was a very difficult decision to make but we want to be closer to our four grandchildren. It makes sense for us to be in the West Bay since we live in North Kingstown,” Mrs. Semple said.

The space at 290 County Road will not remain empty, however. A new children’s store, Piccolos, will open on April 4.

Piccolos will be owned and operated by Robin Silva, who has been the manager at the Barrington Teddy Bearskins for the past 17 years.

Mrs. Silva is very excited to begin a new chapter of her life.

“I have always wanted to own my own store and learned from the best," she said. "We plan to make some cosmetic changes and freshen up the space but we will carry similar items."

Piccolos, which means ‘little one’ in Italian, will employ one full-time staff member and a part-time staffer.
