Huskies skate to fight cancer Friday

EastBayRI.com ·

When the first-place Mt. Hope Huskies take the ice Friday night at home, there will be a lot more at stake than just their record: they’re playing to fight cancer.

Friday’s game against Woonsocket/Scituate will determine who stands atop in their division, as the teams are tied for first. But it is also a fund-raiser to fight cancer, and donations will be accepted to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Providence. There will be a 50/50 raffle, and gifts (toys, hats, gift cards etc.) will also be collected for families going though cancer treatment.

“As so many of our families have been affected by cancer directly or indirectly, our team has decided” to host the fund-raiser, said parent Susan Rancourt. “We are asking everyone to ‘purple’ out the rink.”

Friday’s game is not the first between Mt. Hope and W/S this season. The Huskies beat the team in the Injury Fund tournament. The game will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at the Portsmouth Abbey rink. Please consider donating at the door, or bringing a gift. And don’t forget to wear purple.
