EAST PROVIDENCE — The school committee at its meeting Tuesday night, Dec. 13, meeting unanimously approved offering superintendent Kathryn Crowley an extension to her contract, keeping the agreement at three years in length.

Mrs. Crowley, after being hired in November of 2015, just recently completed her first year on the job. The lengthening is at the same amount of salary, approximately $150,000 annually, and with the same terms.

In putting forth the motion to approve the extension Ward 3 committee member Nate Cahoon said to Mrs. Crowley, "One of the things I'm proudest of doing is having a part in bringing you here…The people you've put on your team have done wonders…(The district) has come 180 degrees."

Added At-Large member Joel Monteiro in seconding the motion, "This is a no-brainer." He continued, the extension represents "the stability this district has been looking for."

Ward 2 member Tony Ferreira, though offering his support for adding term to the superintendent's contract, said he would not back any future extensions.

Ward 4 member Jessica Beauchaine spoke briefly, expressing her support for the superintendent and the extension.

Ward 1 member and committee chairman Charlie Tsonos, likewise, expressed his support for the super's performance, though he previously said he had reservations about adding term to existing contracts.
