East Providence Police locate vehicle used by stabbing suspect

But James Stevens remains at large

EAST PROVIDENCE — Early afternoon Saturday, Dec. 17, the East Providence Police Department announced they have located the vehicle allegedly used by the suspect in the December 10 stabbing death of Jasper Williams, but that the perpetrator remains at large.

In a statement authored by EPPD Lieutenant Ray Blinn, officers located the white, Jeep Cherokee supposedly driven by James Stevens in Johnston. Lt. Blinn declined to discuss the contents of the vehicle or if any evidence pertaining to the case had been found.

Mr. Stevens, of Providence, is believed to be the suspect in the incident which took place in city late last Saturday evening when Mr. Williams was repeatedly stabbed in the head and chest area near his home on Lyons Avenue at the intersection of Warren Avenue.

Mr. Williams was rushed to hospital but eventually succumbed to his wounds on December 15.

The full text of Lt. Blinn's statement is as follows: "The vehicle that suspect James Stevens had been operating has been located and is in the custody of the East Providence Police. The vehicle was located in the Town of Johnston. The suspect, James Stevens, is still at large. There are no further updates at this time and we will not be commenting further on the vehicle, at this time."
