A pizza delivery driver and a woman toting her grandchildren were involved in a two-car accident on Nayatt Road on Tuesday night, Nov. 21.

According to police, a woman who was driving a Toyota Camry with her grandchildren inside was pulling onto Nayatt Road from Middle Highway at about 7:30 p.m., when it collided with a GMC Yukon SUV driven by a pizza delivery man who was heading west on Nayatt.

The accident sent the Camry careening through a fence and onto the Rhode Island Country Club property on the southern side of Nayatt Road. The Yukon, meanwhile, came to rest near the intersection of Nayatt and Middle Highway.

An officer's report from accident stated that the woman was conscious following the collision.

"I asked her what happened, and she stated she was attempting to make a left turn from Middle Highway onto Nayatt Road when her vehicle came into contact with the GMC Yukon," stated the report.

The woman's grandchildren had exited the vehicle following the crash, while rescue personnel extracted the woman from the vehicle.

Police said the Yukon had front end damage. The driver of that vehicle told police he was traveling west on Nayatt when the Camry "entered the travel lane."

The driver of the Yukon was checked by EMTs and refused medical treatment. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
