Bristol fireman named firefighter of the year

Long time Bristol firefighter William Van Voast received the Annual Firefighter of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award in front of his family and peers at the Rhode Island State Firemen's League banquet at Jacky's Galaxy in Bristol on Wednesday night. League president Joseph DaRosa, also a Bristol fireman, gave Mr. Van Voast the award after a brief speech. Bristol Fire Chief Michael DeMello gave Mr. Van Voast a proclamation from the town council.

Criteria for the RISFL award is :

an individual whose outstanding achievements in the fire service and community provides examples of exemplary performance and has given outstanding service to his or her community in the fire service.
