Beyer, Carmody make college commitments official

The Cranston Herald ·

Cranston West senior softball standouts Mackenzie Beyer and Danielle Carmody signed National Letters of Intent last Wednesday in the library at Cranston West High School.

West softball head coach Jeffrey Smith looks forward to the spring when the girls play their last season of softball for the high school.

“We still have one more year to go, a fun year, their senior year,” Smith said. “But, they’ve really put all the hours in and they’re both very deserving of playing at the college level.”

Beyer, who will be playing catcher at Coastal Carolina next year, was ecstatic to sign the papers and explained why she chose Coastal over other offers that she received.

“I’m very excited.” Beyer said. “I wanted to try and get kind of far away. I like the warm weather. I didn’t want to walk around in the snow. So, I kind of chose where it would be not too hot, but in the middle.”

Beyer will major in Sports Management. The catcher looks forward to her last year at West and wants to focus on every aspect of her game to get ready for the next level.

“I just want to try and get better before I go there,” Beyer said. “Just work on everything I need to do to succeed at the college level.”

Carmody, who committed to play in the outfield at Merrimack, had the same mindset.

“I’m very excited about today,” Carmody said. “I did have offers from a couple of other schools, but I loved the atmosphere of the campus and the coach.”

Carmody also explained that Merrimack’s Athletic Training program was another major reason that she chose the school.
