Bay View, Riverside Middle School teams earn accolades at First LEGO competition

Annual robotics event takes place at Roger Williams University

The FIRST LEGO League Rhode Island State Championship, a science-based robotics competition, was held Saturday, Jan. 14, on the campus of Roger Williams University.

The St. Mary Academy-Bay View “SMART 2.0” team was the overall winner of the competition. On note as well, the “Dumbledore's Army” team Riverside Middle School won the Core Values Inspiration award.

1st place Champions:
27591 S.M.A.R.T. 2.0, St. Mary Academy Bay View, East Providence
Each of the 10 students on the S.M.A.R.T. 2.0 team receive a $20K scholarship from RWU. ($5K renewable for 4 years.) The team will represent RI at the FIRST World Festival in St. Louis, competing against teams from dozens of countries and many states, in April 2017.

2nd place Champions:

The team will represent RI at the FIRST Razorback Invitational in Arkansas in May 2017.
