Joseph F. Bruno, 85, Bristol

Mr. Joseph F. Bruno, 85, of Bristol, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. He was the husband of the late Mary T. (Leonard) Bruno.

Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Josephine (Romano) Bruno. Joseph was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, class of 1949, and a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

After his discharge from the Army, he started his career as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service in 1957 in Pontiac, MI, then was transferred to the Providence District office in 1961, before he was promoted to the Boston District Office in 1967, until his retirement in 1982.

He returned to live in Bristol in 1985. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a member of the Nature Conservatory and enjoyed reading, walking and caring for his pets. 

He is survived by a brother, Ferdinand A. Bruno of Bristol; seven nieces; a nephew; nine great nieces and great nephews; and six great-great nieces and great-great nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Angela Peloquin. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Sherry Avenue, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
